Running every Saturday morning, May 8 – September 25
Saturday morning drop-in is officially back in business, starting Saturday, May 8th. As usual, it will be held at the Centennial Middle School courts. BTA has rented and reserved the courts Saturday mornings from May 8 – September 25. Play begins at 9:00 a.m., with court signup starting around 8:00 a.m. Fair warning: at the height of summer all 32 sign-up slots can be filled by 8:30, so try to arrive a little early. (Those signing up after the courts are filled will be “rotated” onto a court following the first round.)
We encourage players of all ages, genders, and levels to join us. No need to bring balls or a partner. BTA provides the balls and hand sanitizer, and with the “move up and switch partners” format, you’ll have a new partner every 40 minutes. This is a popular, well-attended event and a great way to get to know other players in the community. Drop-in is open to BTA members, but non-members are welcome to “sample” the event twice before a membership is required.
Also this year, we are instituting a drop-in email list, so that players can be notified of any sudden change of plans, like a rain-out, or a short-notice weekend high school tennis event taking over the courts. (Yes, it has happened.) If you would like to be included on the drop-in mailing list, email president@bouldertennis.org. with your name and preferred email address.
At the request of the Boulder Tennis Association and – we are informed – other interested parties, there are now porta-johns at the CMS courts. This may not seem like earth-shattering news – unless you happen to be one of the league teams hosting sixteen players for a weekday evening match, or drop-in players out for several hours of tennis on a Saturday morning, or for that matter any others out trying to enjoy a day of tennis. These facilities are provided free of charge by the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department, and will remain through September. Of interest, the BTA Board looked into renting a porta-john for the other seven months of the year, since tennis players don’t magically stop needing restroom facilities October through April. But at an expense upwards of $375 per month, we put the discussion on hold. We’ll revisit it this fall.
Finally, don’t forget to sign up for this year’s Austin Scott Memorial Tournament, May 15 – 22! The deadline for registration is Sunday, May 9. You can find a link to the Austin Scott tournament registration on our BTA Tournament Page.
Thanks, and see you on the courts!
